Car Entertainment - Amos Lee. Just saw him last week at the Pagent and still in the mood. "Keep it Loose, Keep it Tight" was calling me today.
Rhino and Charlie did great during their first night in a hotel! Little Miss FOMO (Charlie) did bark a couple of times when she heard something, but all in all pretty minor. We all woke up refreshed to start the day with a quick walk near the Plaza, and then they went right back to sleep until our first outing!
We started the day with a walk on the trail at Brookside. As usual R&C made a lot of puppy pals. We started early at 8AM to beat the heat! They saw chickens for the first time and were VERY interested in them! The chickens were not nearly as interested in R&C.
We ended our walk at Aixois (Aixois - Kansas City ), a really cute French Bistro with a great patio. Rhino was very excited when I got my breakfast!
After breakfast we headed back to the hotel for some time on the rooftop pool. Again, we got out early to beat the heat and the crowds. By noon this place was packed! I did get to try another Quirk flavor, Cherry Blossom and Lime and it was even better than the Bomb Pop flavor! Cherry Blossom & Lime - Boulevard Brewing Company
Since pups aren't allowed at the pool this was their first test being left in the hotel room for more than just a few minutes. They did not pass their first test...I came back to find the TV remote chewed to pieces!!
I suppose that was a lot of work for them because then they took another nap while I got cleaned up to head into the city.
We headed to a cool area with a lot of breweries and restaurants. They even have a Mission Taco there, so you know it's cool!
By this time of the day it was blazing hot and full sun. The goal was to find a spot that allowed pups inside or at least had a shady spot on the patio.
First stop of Brewery Emperial (Brewery Emperial ). Really cool patio and we had a Ginger Shandy which was delicious and refreshing. Plus it was served in a logo glass with an owl on it which I always think is a good sign since I was a Chi Omega.
Dani tried hard to get a good pic of me with R&C but neither they nor my dress was cooperating!
Next we walked to Red Sash Brewing (cannot get website to work). This was a really small brewery, but it had a wholly shaded patio with a breeze...sold! There were also other pups out there and of course R&C made more friends.
The best part about this place were the four dudes that were sitting on the patio. They were veterans and were all very proud to have served their country. Of course we thanked them repeatedly for their service, and listened to their stories. It is very telling and touching how much this is still a part of their identity and very germane to who they are even though it had been decades since they served. These men are representative of a big part of the heart and soul of America.
Those of you who have one may also notice the ring the man with the white beard is wearing (you probably have to zoom in). It is a puzzle ring exactly like the one I have and happened to be wearing at the time! He said he's had it for almost 40 years. I've had mine since high school (so almost 40 years...ha!).
This was also the first time when someone asked me what I did for work, I said, "NOTHING", which felt a little weird and awesome at the same time. Then I learned a new term from the woman they were with (not pictured here), that I am "Funemployed". That is EXACTLY what I am!!
By this time R&C were exhausted and ready to get out of the heat.
After I told our new veteran friends that Rhino and Charlie were named after airplanes, they suggested we try Call Sign Brewery for BBQ, so we did! CALLSIGN Brewing Company – FOUNDED BY VETERANS TO HONOR HEROES
Really cool place and great BBQ!!
That was about enough for one day!
We have a big driving day ahead of us tomorrow with 8-10 hours to Boulder.
